About

Creativity. Skill. Experience.

History

DellaTech was founded in 2010 by serial entrepreneurs Christine Martin and Jerry Martin. Both are MIT graduates, with graduate degrees in Nuclear Engineering with a focus on thermal-hydraulics. After graduating, they joined Creare, a leading contract R&D firm in the field of heat transfer, fluid mechanics and miniature turbomachinery.  For five years at Creare, they led R&D programs ranging from cryocoolers to semiconductor processing. Eager to get closer to the market, they moved to Colorado to found Mesoscopic Devices, LLC, a leader in portable solid oxide fuel cells. There, they were joined by Dr. Joe Poshusta, who led Mesoscopic Devices' expansion into fuel reformers and solid oxide fuel cells. Combining their skills in mechanical design, thermal hydraulics and chemical engineering allowed them to make the first portable SOFCs running on liquid hydrocarbons. Mesoscopic Devices was acquired in 2008 by Protonex and is now part of Ballard Power Corporation. In 2010 the team founded DellaTech to commercialize process intensification techniques in multiple industries.

DellaTech developed novel ionic liquid synthesis technology, which it commercialized through its spin-off Boulder Ionics Corporation in 2010. After raising private, family office and venture funding, Boulder Ionics was acquired by CoorsTek and renamed CoorsTek Fluorochemicals. In 2016, following the Coors family decision to exit the fine chemicals business, the Martins returned to DellaTech to continue their development of novel chemical process equipment. Key DellaTech IP in ionic liquids and lithium salts was acquired by Synthio Chemicals, Inc. in 2018. In 2022, DellaTech began sales of custom computer-controlled process equipment for continuous-flow processing of specialty and fine chemicals.

VP Operations

Christine Martin

Christine Martin began her career as an engineer building two-phase flow sensors for microgravity operations. From this high-flying start, she went on to become a principal investigator on programs for DoD, DOE and NASA, and then went on to found three companies (Mesoscopic Devices, Boulder Ionics and DellaTech), leading operations and rapid growth, including negotiating and managing tens of millions of dollars in research contracts for commercial and government clients. Christine's experience in building hardware, teams and managing complex development programs enables DellaTech to deliver unparalled value to our clients.
